What JapanMapcode does
JapanMapcode converts a Google Maps link you paste (or send to our Telegram bot) into a Japan Denso Mapcode. There are no accounts, no sign-up, and nothing to install — you submit a link and get a result back.
What we don't do
The website does not use cookies, analytics, or tracking scripts of any kind. We have no way to see who visits the site or how it's used beyond standard server logs (see below).
The link you submit
When you submit a Google Maps link, our backend resolves it to a coordinate pair and looks up the corresponding Mapcode. For most links (pin drops, raw coordinates) this happens without any third party seeing your link. For links to a named place (a restaurant, landmark, or business) that don't carry coordinates, we send the place's address text to the Google Geocoding API to resolve it — this is the only case where data leaves our servers to a third party you haven't directly interacted with. Google's handling of that request is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
To avoid re-billing the same lookup, resolved place coordinates are cached in our database keyed by Google's internal place ID — not by you, your IP, or any other identifier tied to a person. We also keep an aggregate monthly count of geocoding calls made, purely to stay within our API budget.
Mapcode lookup
To compute the Mapcode itself, the coordinates are sent to a public Mapcode lookup service. No other information about you is sent along with that request.
Telegram bot
If you use @japan_map_code_converter_bot, the message you send is read only to extract the Google Maps link, processed the same way as above, and replied to. We don't store your messages or Telegram identity beyond what's needed to send that one reply. Telegram's own Privacy Policy governs how the platform itself handles your data.
Server logs
Like most web services, our hosting infrastructure keeps standard technical logs (e.g. timestamps, error messages) to operate and debug the service. These are not used to build profiles of individual users.
